Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Linea (“Linea”, “we”, “us”), a reading app available at readlinea.com. By creating an account or using Linea, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Service description

Linea is a reading app for language learners. It provides AI-generated sentence-level translations and word-level alignments to help you read real books in a new language. The service is designed to support comprehension, not replace professional human translation.

Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Linea. If you are under the age required in your country to consent to online services, you may only use Linea with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian.

Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Notify us at support@readlinea.com if you believe your account has been compromised.

Content you upload

Linea does not provide books. You upload your own EPUB or text files to read. You represent that you have the right to use any content you upload (for example, you own the file, it is in the public domain, or your use is otherwise permitted by law).

You retain all rights to the content you upload. By uploading content, you grant Linea a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to process, store, translate, align, and display that content for the sole purpose of providing the service to you. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for cached translation segments that have been de-identified from your account.

You agree not to upload content that:

  • You do not have the legal right to use
  • Infringes copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights
  • Is illegal, defamatory, or violates the rights of others

Acceptable use

By using Linea, you agree not to:

  • Use the service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
  • Abuse, overload, or interfere with the translation and alignment APIs
  • Attempt to bypass rate limits, quotas, or access controls
  • Reverse-engineer, scrape, or resell the service
  • Use Linea to train competing AI models

Subscriptions and payments

Linea offers a free tier (50 translated pages per month) and may offer paid tiers with higher or unlimited quotas. Payments for paid plans are processed by Lemon Squeezy. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable. For refund requests, contact support@readlinea.com.

AI-generated content

Translations, word alignments, and definitions are generated by large language models. While we strive for quality:

  • Translations are not guaranteed to be accurate and should not be relied upon for critical or professional purposes
  • Word alignments and definitions are approximate and may contain errors
  • The service is intended as a learning aid, not a professional translation tool

Availability and changes

Linea is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to give advance notice of material changes.

Account termination

You may delete your account at any time from Account Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, including for abuse of the translation APIs, illegal use of the service, or attempts to reverse-engineer or scrape the service.

Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Linea is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Linea and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or USD 50, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot be limited under applicable consumer protection law.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of Linea will be resolved in the competent courts of the Netherlands, unless you have mandatory consumer-protection rights in your place of residence that require otherwise. If you are a consumer residing in the European Union, you retain the protection of the mandatory provisions of the consumer protection laws of your country of residence.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and, for significant changes, notify you by email or an in-app notice. Continued use of Linea after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
